Patsy Dell Radenberg

Great Bend—Patsy Dell Radenberg, 83, passed away Friday May 18, 2018, at Great Bend Health and Rehab Center. She was born March 5, 1935 at Watonga, Okla the daughter of Delbert and Ferne (Baker) Scott.

Patsy has been a resident of Great Bend since 1952 coming from Oakwood, Okla. She graduated from Great Bend High School, and took numerous college courses from, Barton County Community College. She was united in marriage to Leo Radenberg on May 21, 1955 in Great Bend. Patsy worked for Shelter Insurance Co. (Mike Johnson Agency). She also was office manager for American Family Insurance Agency from 1989 to 1998. She loved spending time reading devotions, butterfly’s and she was an avid Elvis fan.

Survivors include son Terry Radenberg and wife Kyle of Great Bend; daughter Laree Hinman and husband David of Hoisington; grandchildren Taryn Radenberg and fiance Jack Mitchell, Gannon Radenberg and Steven Hinman and wife Sarah; great grandchildren Jackson Hinman and Kathryn Titsworth. She was preceded in death by brother Gary Scott and foster parents Jim and Alice Minor who raised Gary and Patsy.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 23, 2018 at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor J.P. McCamey officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call between 1-9 p.m. Tuesday May 22, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with the Family Crisis Center or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Brent Alan Patzner, 48, died May 19, 2018, in Herculaneum, Missouri.  He was born December 31, 1969, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Joseph William Patzner, Jr. and Mary Patricia “Pat” (Redding) Patzner.

Brent graduated from Great Bend High School in 1988.  He received his associate’s degree from Barton County Community College where he played on the baseball team, and then attended Washburn University.

Brent worked as a heavy equipment operator for McFry Excavating, Inc. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, De Soto, Missouri, and was a 4th degree knight with the De Soto Council #1185 Knights of Columbus. Brent also belonged to the IUOE Local #513.

Survivors include; companion, Kimberly  Muzzey of De Soto, Missouri; son, Jake Patzner of De Soto, Missouri; daughter, Shelby Yinger of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; parents, Joseph and Pat Patzner of Joplin, Missouri; brother, Brad Patzner and wife Laura of Great Bend; nephew, Matthew Patzner and wife Amy of Great Bend; and a great nephew, Kellen Patzner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, celebrated by Father Terrence Klein. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.

GREAT BEND — Jessica Marie Knoll, 37, passed away May 19, 2018, at her home in Great Bend.  She was born October 16, 1980, in Colby, to James and Bonnie (Keith) Knoll.

Jessica was a graduate of Morland High School and attended KU and FHSU.  On June 10, 2016, she married Patty Brand at Veteran’s Park, Great Bend, previously exchanging their vows June 10, 2006.  A resident of Great Bend since 2009, coming from Otis, Jessica was a Retirement Implementation Consultant for CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions and Case Manager at Benefit Management.

Jessica enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and “tinkering” on her latest projects. She cherished her time with friends and family, especially her beloved brothers, while hunting, fishing; playing softball and volleyball; grilling, smoking Marlboro Lights and occasionally a Grape Swisher Sweets, and trying new craft beers. She was an avid Star Wars, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, ABBA, and Dallas Cowboys fan. Jessica will always be remembered for her willingness to help others, being an extremely loyal friend, big heart, love for animals and her quick wit.

Preceding her in death were grandparents Ambrose and Agatha Knoll of St. Peter, Kan., and Bernard and Carol Keith of Penokee, Kan.

Jessica is survived by her wife Patty Knoll, of the home; two brothers, Travis Knoll and significant other, Tabitha Droddy, of Lafayette, La., and Ryan Knoll of Alexandria, La.; and two nephews, Alec and Lochlan; father, James Knoll of Salina, Kan.; and mother, Bonnie Knoll of Morland, Kan.

A memorial service is pending for a later date, and will be announced by Bryant Funeral Home.  A memorial fund has been established with Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Leroy JC “J” Chapman

LEROY JC “J” CHAPMAN

Leroy JC “J” Chapman, age 74 years, a lifelong resident of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, passed away on May 19, 2018 at his home in Pawnee Rock. J was born on July 8, 1943 at Larned, Kansas to Donald L. and Wilma Ruth (Baker) Chapman. He graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1962, and went to work in the oil patch, working as a Roughneck for Garvey Drilling, Pickrell Drilling, Duke Drilling, and Mallard Drilling until his retirement in 2010. He was united in marriage to Freda Keener on September 9, 1968 at Great Bend, Kansas. They later divorced. A hard worker all of his life, J also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include three daughters: Lynda Miller of Hillsboro, Kansas, Melissa Chapman and her companion Jim Lair of Menomenie, Wisconsin, and Tabitha (and her husband, Nicholas) Blair of Great Bend, Kansas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Chapman and Becky of Great Bend, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Emil Chapman.

IRENE C. REED

Irene C. Reed, age 95 years, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Tuesday evening, May 22, 2018 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend, Kansas after a brief illness. Irene was born on January 12, 1923 at Lamont, Kansas to Loman and Alpha (McCuddy) Cassel. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1942, and was united in marriage to Jesse J. Reed on February 14, 1942 at Chase, Kansas. Irene and Jesse enjoyed dancing and socializing. She was a longtime member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Russell, Kansas.
Survivors include one son, Leonard E. Reed (and his wife, Jana) of Great Bend, Kansas; two granddaughters: Stephanie (and her husband, Layne) Leuenberger and Laura Dean; four great-grandchildren: Kayla (and her husband, Justin) Seybert, Brent Leuenberger, Chelsea Leuenberger, and Katie (and her husband, Dylan) Sowell; seven great-great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse J. Reed in 1982, four brothers and three sisters.
Cremation has been chosen. There will be no viewing or services at this time. A Memorial Service with inurnment in Russell City Cemetery at Russell, Kansas will be held at a later date. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the First Southern Baptist Church at Russell, Kansas. Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas 

Pat L. Conrad, 79, died May 22, 2018, at her home in Hoisington.

She was born November 25, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clay A. and Grace A. (Tracy) McConnell.  Pat was a 1956 graduate of Hoisington High School.

A longtime Hoisington resident, she was a farmer’s wife and homemaker, and an administrator for the Red Cross and Friendship Meals.

Pat was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hoisington. In her younger years she was an avid bowler and competed at the state and national level. She was also quite the sports fan, she loved to support the “Cardinals”, and cheer for the Chiefs, K-State, and Royals, but especially loved following her grandchildren and their events.

On November 25, 1955, she married Robert L. “Bob” Conrad, in Hoisington. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2005.

Survivors include; four children, Robert A. “Bob” Conrad and wife Cecilia of Hoisington, Lynn Doeden and husband Rick of Emporia, Curtis Conrad and wife Sherri of Cheney, and Jim “J.P.” Conrad and friend Jill of Burwell, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Charly Goodson and husband Matt, Erin Wolfram and husband Rodger, Kellen Doeden, Tyler Conrad, Lindsey Conrad and fiancée Kyle, Bruce Conrad and wife Maggie, and Jessica Goodwin and husband Evan; seven great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law, Donitta Conrad.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, with Pastor Stephanie Norton presiding. Inurnment will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.

Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Eleanor M. “Gae” Aylward, 97, died May 23, 2018, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was born March 5, 1921, on the farm, near Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. Reif, Sr. and Aurelia (Zorn) Reif.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, she was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress at the Colonial House Restaurant.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

On October 24, 1940, she married Francis E. Aylward, in Hoisington. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997.

Survivors include; three children, James J. Aylward and wife Pat of Goddard, Michael F. Aylward of Hoisington, and Mary Ann Bone and husband Steve of Saginaw, Texas; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Jany Aylward, great-grandson, Connor Michael Aylward; brother, Joseph F. Reif, and three sisters, Mary Finger, Matilda “Emmy” Brockel, and Anna Brockel.

Vigil with Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, all at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Kenneth Wayne Parks

Holyrood–Kenneth Wayne Parks, 85, passed away Friday May 25, 2018, at Hays Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1932, at Miller, Ks the son of James and Elnora (Goldsmith) Parks.

Kenneth was a resident of Holyrood. He was a graduated from Holyrood High School and earned a bachelors and master’s degrees from Fort Hays State University, and numerous certificates in science and education throughout his 34-year career. Kenneth was a science teacher and administrator in Utica, Larned, Esbon, Montezuma, and Holyrood, culminating in his position with USD 328 and retirement in 1994.

Kenneth served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a jet mechanic. He was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood, past Master of Masonic Lodge 424, Claflin (Scottish Rite Salina), Shrine Club of Salina and Russell, Order of the Eastern Star, Lyons. Kenneth married Cecelia Tokoi, August 11, 1956 in Hays. She preceded him in death September 12, 1997.

Survivors include daughter Carol Parks and husband Dr. Carl Fischer of Leavenworth; son Michael

Parks and wife Kim of Bunnel, Fla.; brothers Leonard Parks of Ellsworth and Charles Parks of Topeka; four grandchildren Aaron Parks, Amy Stewart, Kevin Fischer and Allison Fisher; three great grandchildren Kolby, Kasyn and Kipton. He was preceded in death by two brothers Marvin and Eugene, two sisters Louise Woods and Henryetta Holmes.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 30, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Holyrood with Pastor Debby Rain officiating. Burial will follow at St Paul’s Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends and family may call at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home 415 North Main, Hoisington between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday May 29, 2018.

Great Bend —Sharon Marie Ferguson, 55, passed away Thursday May 24, 2018 in Dora MO. She was born November 5, 1962 in Great Bend the daughter of Kenneth and Connie (Denney) Thompson.

Sharon was a life time resident of Great Bend. She graduated from Great Bend high school. Sharon was united in marriage to Daryl “Tippy” Ferguson on June 27, 1981 in Great Bend. He passed away August 22, 2013. She liked to watch racing, motorcycles and drinking Coors Light. But most of all she Loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include son Doug Ferguson and wife Jennifer of Great Bend; daughters Kristy Creamer and husband James, Misty Skinner and husband Robbie all of Great Bend; parents Kenneth and Connie Thompson of Great Bend;  brothers Allen and Steven Thompson both of Great Bend; sister Terri Fritz and husband Kenneth of Great Bend; mother-in-law Opal Ferguson of Great Bend; companion Jeff Stefanski of Great Bend; grandchildren Dayton, Dylan, Daylan, Dezmon, Sierra, Darian, Dakota, Kourtnee, Jamison and Brinley; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday May 30, 2018 at Bryant Funeral home with Kurt Spivey officiating, burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday May 29, 2018 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present 6-8 p.m. to greet friends.

Larry Kent Lohmann

Dateline: Lincoln, Kansas

LINCOLN – Larry Kent Lohmann, 64, passed away on May 16, 2018, at his home in Lincoln County.  He was born on August 21, 1953, in Lincoln, the son of Alvin and Dorlene (Walters) Lohmann.  He was a 1971 graduate of Lincoln High School.  He attended NCK Technical College, Beloit, and graduated in 1973 with his associate’s degree in diesel technology.  After graduating, he moved to Great Bend where he began his 30 year career with Doonan Truck and Equipment.  He married Marlene (Marty) Elaine Penka on December 18, 1982.  They later divorced.

He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, hanging out with his grandchildren, and fishing in Colorado.

Survivors include his son, Jonathan Lohmann (Courtney) of Overland Park; daughter, Kristia Zeretzke of Great Bend; his fiancé, Coke Suchy of Great Bend; one brother, Randy Lohmann of Lincoln; and two grandsons, Jaxson and Caden Lohmann.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Dorlene; maternal grandparents, Henry and Leah Walters; paternal grandparents, Carl and Louise Lohmann; and son-in-law Michael Zeretzke.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding.  Casual attire is requested by the family.  There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Larry Kent Lohmann Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS, 67530.

John Ray Gable, 90, was born to John and Alice (Houston) Gable on April 1, 1928, in Great Bend, Kan.  He passed away on May 24, 2018, in Parker, Col., surrounded by his loving family.  He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1947.  John married JoAnn Reed, his high school sweetheart, on September 5, 1948, in Wichita, Kan.  They were married for 70 years.

In 1950, John and JoAnn started Gable Water Service in Plainville, Kan.  They moved to Hill City, Kan., in 1961 and started Gable Ready Mix.  In 1963, they moved to Kimball, Neb., where John formed Rocky Mountain Drilling Company and purchased his first drilling rig.  From then on, he owned various oil and gas businesses.  During the oil and gas boom of the 1980’s, John owned Empire Oil and Gas which he took public.  The stock was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.  John was a legend in the oil and gas business throughout the Midwest.  His business expanded from Montana to West Virginia.

John had business negotiations with the Republic of China in 1981 to acquire the first oil and gas drilling concessions in China by an American Oil Company.  John remained involved in the oil and gas business until the time of this death.

John became a pilot in the 1950’s.  He loved flying and owned a variety of airplanes including a Lear jet.  John’s true passion was working in the oil and gas industry around the clock.  John was passionate about attending oil field equipment auctions and buying drilling rigs and oil field equipment.  John was a member of the Shriners Masonic Lodge for 67 years.

John is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three children, Judy (Allan) Kuhlman, Diana Martin and John Alan Gable; seven grandchildren, Brittan (JoEllen) Kuhlman, Codie (Melisa) Martin, Heidi Martin, John Alan (Jennifer) Gable, Tyler Gable, Jesse Gable, Cole Gable; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Madeline Redd.  John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine Anderson.

John will be dearly missed by his family and friends who loved him very much.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with Troy Miller presiding.  Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.  Visitation will be Noon to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home. As per the family’s request, the casket will be closed.  A memorial fund has been established for Shriners Hospitals for Children, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Carolyn Faye Welsch

Great Bend–Carolyn Faye Welsch, 66, passed away Friday May 25, 2018 at Via Christi St Francis in Wichita. She was born September 5, 1951 at Biglow Ark. The daughter of Richard and Faye (Wiley) Loftis.

Carolyn was a resident of Great Bend. Carolyn was untied in marriage to Max Welsch November 8, 1976 in Great Bend She was a cook for the hospital and several care homes and other places in Great Bend. Carolyn was a great cook and loved to cook for her family, she also spent time in her garden growing different items. The best thing she loved to do was spend time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include husband Max of the home; son Tracy Welsch and wife Jennifer of Great Bend; daughter Stephanie Wagner of Lawrence; grandchildren Mickey, Nicole, Cortney and Houston Wagner, Autumn, Drake Welsch; great grandchildren Korbin and Beau Wagner. She was preceded in death by her father Fred Loftis, brother Jimmie Loftis and grandchildren Drew and Delaine Welsch.

No services are planned. Visitation with family present will be 1:00pm to 3:00 p.m. Saturday June 2, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home.

Cheryl Lynn Peterson, 58, passed away May 28, 2018, at her home in Great Bend. She was born June 24, 1959, at Rapid City, SD, to Eugene and LaDonna (Loreg) Lytle.  Cheryl married Warren Peterson June 24, 1978, at Hays, Kansas.  They were later divorced.

Cheryl, a Great Bend resident since 1962, was a licensed cosmetologist and was currently employed with Braum’s Restaurant.  She held previous employment with Wal Mart, JC Penney, USD 428, Mitchell’s Bakery, and was a hairdresser.  She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and cake decorating.

Survivors include her mother, LaDonna Lytle of Great Bend; twins, Andrew Peterson (Nicole Lofland) of Great Bend and Amanda Humburg (Devin Holley) of Rose Hill; one brother, David Lytle of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Adleigh Humburg, Ashlee Humburg, Thomas Humburg, Hailey Peterson, and Gage Peterson; and one nephew, David Lytle, Jr.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Paden presiding.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Stockton City Cemetery, Stockton.  Visitation will be 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home.  Memorial funds may be directed to the Cheryl Lynn Peterson Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Cheryl Anne Crain, 64, died May 28, 2018, at her home in Great Bend.  She was born April 25, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Raphael Naylor and Faye Lois (Gilmore) Muth. Cheryl attended Great Bend High School and Barton County Community College.

She was a licensed daycare provider taking care of many children over the years in her daycare, Grandma’s Home Daycare.

Cheryl was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, of Great Bend. An avid Bible reader, she was a member of several Bible Study Schools.

Survivors include her four children; April Randa of Hoisington, Heather Hibbs and husband Richard of Peck, Farah Stude and husband Tim of Brewster, and Mitchell Schwartz and wife Kris of Bison; mother, Faye Muth of Great Bend; siblings, Rhonda Nuss and husband Scott of Otis, James Muth and wife Cheryl of Arkansas, Anthony Muth and wife Sandra of Great Bend, Steven Muth and wife Cozetta of Salina, and Lynn Tammen and husband Dave of Albert; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Casey, Teairah, Tommy, Jakob, Raphael, Haylee, Gage, Kirsten, Aiden, Alyssa, Kaden, and Ky; and two great grandchildren, Presley and Dexter.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raphael Muth.

A private family memorial service will take place on June 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chase, Kansas immediately following the memorial service.

LeeAnne Emmons, 67, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

LeeAnne was born on November 24, 1950, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of Leon and Mary Ann (Sparks) Atkerson.  At a young age she moved to the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1969.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Alfred E. Emmons on June 26, 1984 in Russell, Kansas.  She worked as a secretary for Francis-Urban Tank Service for many years.  She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell.  She enjoyed working with arts and crafts and collecting Noah’s ark items.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving family include her husband Alfred E. Emmons of the home, son Kenny L. Cain  wife Melanie of Lucas, Kansas, daughter Amy Hoss and husband Cody of Russell, Kansas and son Robert D. Emmons and companion Kimberly Forest of Russell, Kansas; grandchildren Keven Cain, Kendra Harp and Slayde Hoss and great grandchild Kinsley Harp.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service to celebrate LeeAnne’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Les Rye officiating.  Cremation has been selected by the family and inurnment of the cremains will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Wednesday evening.  Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church Nursery or Russell City Play Park and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Great Bend–Wanita “Sandy” Basgall, 83, passed away Wednesday May 30, 2018, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. Wanita was born September 8, 1934, at Victoria the daughter of Joe and Adeline (Meis) Sander.

Wanita has been a resident of Great Bend since 1953 coming from Hays. She was united in marriage to Marvin Basgall February 7, 1953, in Hays. He passed away December 30, 2011. She was a homemaker, a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick’s, and the Altar Society. She loved to watch cooking shows, and she was the BEST COOK in the family. Sandy helped her husband in his business. Sandy loved being with her grandkids and great grandkids. She has missed her husband Marvin since he passed away.

Survivors include two daughters Pam Corkins and husband Cliff of Hutchinson, and Shelly Drees of Salina; son Gary Basgall and wife Rhonda of Olathe; brother Francis Sander and wife Bridgett of Jacksonville, Ark; sister Armella Johnson of Lewisburg, WV; five grandchildren Barry (Daphne) Stalcup, Taylor (Katie) Basgall, Emma, Riley and Keenan Drees; four great grandchildren Mason, Kennedi, and Averi Stalcup and Ellie Basgall. She was preceded in death by brothers Al, Gilbert, Wilmer and Melvin Sander and sisters Leona Vonfeldt and Cecelia Dreiling.

Visitation 1-9 p.m. Sunday June 3, 2018 with Altar Society Rosary at 4 p.m., with the vigil at 7 p.m., both at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday June 4, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Memorial is requested to Prince of Peace Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Robert C. “Bob” Simmons

Dateline: Hoisington, Kansas 

Robert C. “Bob” Simmons, 77, died May 28, 2018, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.  He was born October 21, 1940, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Frank and Anna (Larmer) Simmons.  Bob was a 1958 graduate of Hoisington High School.

A lifetime Barton County resident, living in both Great Bend and Hoisington.  He was a roofer, working for L.R. Parsons that later became Washington Roofing.

Bob was active in the Masonic Lodge #331 AF & AM of Hoisington, the Mt. Nebo York Rite of Great Bend, where he was a Grand High Priest, and the Red Cross Constantine, where he was a grand commander and main officer.  He was a Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Sheaf Chapter #226 of Hoisington.

On June 18, 1961, he married Doris L. Mitchell at Trinity Baptist Church of Hoisington.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Doris L. Simmons of the home; and three children; Doug Simmons and wife Elaine of Great Bend, Donna Julian and husband Tim of Hooker, Oklahoma, Diana Dornberger and husband Paul of Salina; sister, Carolyn Bailey of Hoisington; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth Alexander and husband Caleb of Columbia, Missouri, Phylleicia Clawson and husband Kody of Ellinwood, John Julian of Boise, Idaho, Chris Krom of Ellis, Kandiesa Rexwinkle of Hoisington, Robert Fortner and wife Felicia of Superior, Wisconsin; and five great grandchildren, Caven, Kaden, Kohen, Aden, and Dane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald Gene and John Stephen Simmons; and a sister, Frances Lee Simmons.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Chapel, with Ron Bailey officiating. Inurnment will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.  Friends may sign the book only as cremation has taken place.
