Dolores Rusco
May 20, 1921 to November 17, 2017
After a long and joyful life Dolores passed away from a heart attack. She was born in Kansas City, she attended Great Bend High where she sang A cappella in the choir. After graduation she worked at the Armour Creamery, wrapping butter at first, then she was promoted to the butter milk culture department. In 1942 she followed her husband,
Sidney, to Santa Monica, CA and then onto Phoenix, where she worked at the cotton gin weighting the trucks. She also worked for Southern Pacific railway as dispatch clerk.

Sid was transferred to MacDill Air Force base in Tampa, FL and she worked at Macy’s as a stock control clerk. She then became a stenographer, in the steno pool for the Colonels in the Air Force. After the war in 1946 she moved to the Farm with Sid and spent the rest of her life being a mother, farmers’ wife, working the fields, driving the grain trucks, she was homemaker and a secretary for the plumbing business, the farm and for the rentals.  She was always on the go and was willing to help out anyone. She was active until the last day of her life, always humming and singing joyfully.

Her and Sidney loved to travel and spent many years traveling with her sis and brother, Doreen and Byron, including a yearly visit with them in Waikiki Beach. Doreen was able to show them the most wonderful places in the world. She relived many of those travels over and over in stories and dreams.

She had been living at Sun Oaks Senior Living since May 2017, where she loved singing along everyday with the music. She had lived at The Terraces of Roseville, CA for 6 years prior and enjoyed every outing and all the activities they had. She also had a big garden that she took care of while living there. She would always say the best part of each day, would be when her daughter came by to see her and every Wednesday night when they had “Girls night out”. She had a passion for watching “TJ” fly his night fliers and Drones and she narrated every maneuver always wanting -one more flight. She was his “Biggest Fan”.

She loved when Ron and Diane came to visit and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had just seen most of her family at Javin’s wedding in Lafeyette, Indiana in May 2017, she was so happy to see them. In October she was thrilled to see more relatives at her house on the farm.

She was active in The First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend, Ks, and was over the Missionettes, then the Women’s missions and World missions. She loved her church and dedicated her life helping and giving with her heart and soul. She received a Certificate of Appreciation for her many years of services with the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney and a infant daughter Janet Kay, sister Verdean and brother Donald.

She is survived by her son Ronald Rusco, daughter Carolee McCullough, sister Doreen Powell and brother Byron Powell. Grandchildren April Denning, Javin Rusco and Jennifer Pennepacker. Great Grandchildren, Kai Newell-Denning, Dace Rusco, Jasper, Aria, Sloan and Hudson Pennepacker.

Dolores’s celebration of life will be Memorial Weekend, Sunday May 27 at 2PM at the Assembly Of God Church. There will be an open mic session for loved ones or friends to express fond memories in the later part of the celebration.
