Lillian Rose (Williams) Rosenberg

Dateline: Great Bend, Kansas

Lillian Rose (Williams) Rosenberg, passed away May 10, 2019, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.  She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Phillips County, Kan., to Claude and Emma (Schippert) Williams.  On June 22, 1945, Lillian married Verlyn Rosenberg in Jewell.  He passed away Oct. 28, 2004.  They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.

Lillian was a 1940 graduate of Alma High School, later pursuing her teacher’s certificate from Kearney Normal School, then teaching first through eighth grades in a one room school in rural Nebraska. Lillian had been a Great Bend resident since 1952, coming from Phillips County, having owned and operated, with Verlyn, Rosenberg Engine Service, where Lillian faithfully served as vice president and secretary for 33 years.

Lillian was a member of First Assembly God Church, Great Bend. Lillian and Verlyn traveled the U.S. extensively, also having visited Italy and the Holy Land.

Survivors include two sons, Rex Rosenberg of Hoisington and Neil Rosenberg and wife Carolyn of Fraser, Col.; two daughters, Joyce VanCamp of Great Bend and Kay E. Cook and husband David of Tulsa, Okla.; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in passing by her husband; two sons, Douglas Rosenberg and Mark Rosenberg; and one daughter, Barbara Casey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at First Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Dwight Dozier.  Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.  Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given to First Assembly of God, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Samuel J. ”Sam” Ward

Dateline: Great Bend, Kansas

Samuel J. ”Sam” Ward, age 96, passed away May 11, 2019, at Almost Home, Great Bend.  He was born January 4, 1923, at Joplin, Mo., to Grover Cleveland and Martha Jane Ward.  Sam married Anneliese Fruehauf July 17, 1949, at Hudson.  She survives.

Sam, a resident of Great Bend since 1935 coming from Joplin, Mo., was a lifelong farmer and stockman, belonging to First Christian Church, Great Bend.  His passion was farming, but also enjoyed woodworking, carving, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include wife, Anneliese Ward, of the home; one son, Robert Ward of Anthony; two daughters, Mildred Dills and Karen Spears both of Great Bend; three grandchildren Donnie Beeler, Duane Spears and Tracey Spears; and many great grandchildren.  Sam was preceded in passing by two brothers, Bob and Grover, Jr.; four sisters, Ellie, Mary, Violet, Jewel; three additional young siblings; and two sons-in-law, Bennie Dills and Al Spears.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at First Christian Church, Great Bend, with Rev. Joshua Leu officiating.  Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Memorials may be given to First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Denise “DW” Wolf

WILSON – Denise “DW” Wolf, 62, passed away May 14, 2019, at Wilson Health and Rehab. She was born August 8, 1956 at Russell to Leven and Virginia (Plante) Wolf.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Denise was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose. She loved bowling, CB radios, country music, John Wayne movies and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include, one brother, Dennis Wolf and wife Kandi of Great Bend; three sisters, Karla Vandivier and husband Paul of LaCrosse, Paula Shaw and husband Kirby of Bison, and Lorain Sturn of Kansas City, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Anthony and Amelia Wolf, and Joseph and Marcella Plante.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Marston Vade (Marty) Holman

GREAT BEND – Marston Vade (Marty) Holman, 67, was born in Wichita, KS, on October 11, 1951. He died May 17, 2019 in Wichita at Wesley Medical Center peacefully surrounded by his family. His parents were Melvin Vade Holman and Elva Mae Jeffries Holman. Marty was raised in rural Johnson County and loved the outdoors. From an early age he played any sport with a ball – baseball, basketball, football, and volleyball, always dragging his friends behind. He attended Johnson County Community College, Kansas University, and was graduated from Baker University. His commitment to youth led him to work at Shawnee Mission Medical Center as the activities coordinator on the mental health unit for many years. 

In 1983, he married Dee Jo Fitzsimmons and to them was born a son, MacDaniel Vade Holman. In 1991 the family moved to Great Bend, KS, where Marty was actively involved in the sports, scouting, and youth activities surrounding his son, especially cross country. Marty took a job with USD 428 special services as a job coach and Wild Life Center manager. Later he became a bus driver and a member of the summer mowing crew for the district before his retirement.

Marty loved his family, was a hard worker, a good coach, great father and grandfather. The outdoors was his space where he enjoyed grilling, yard work, bird watching, and fishing in Colorado. His generous nature, kind heart, infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Dr. Melvin Vade Holman and Elva Mae Holman. He is survived by his son, MacDaniel Vade Holman and wife Ashley Leigh Holman of Hoisington, KS; one brother, Melvin Holman and wife Jane Heather Holman of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jade Lee Holman and Jackdaniel Holman; former wife and friend, Dee Holman of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces and nephews, Ben and Emily Steinbauer, and Westen and Sophie McNeely.

Cremation has taken place, and in lieu of service, the family will have a “Memorial BBQ” on June 15th, where we will invite friends and family to share in the celebration of Marty’s life with his favorite foods and memories, at 3712 19th Street (Larry and Jan Westfall’s), in Great Bend at 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Bomber Baseball or the Great Bend Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

James “Russell” Newcomb

James “Russell” Newcomb, age 64 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his Great Bend home on Sunday morning, May 19, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Russell was born on June 22, 1954 at Muskogee, Oklahoma to Dr. James R. and Donna (Sorrells) Newcomb. He graduated from Broken Arrow High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1972, attended Oklahoma University from 1972-1973, and then transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he graduated in 1976 with a degree in Culinary Arts. He moved to Great Bend, Kansas with his wife Debbie Newcomb in 1995, and worked as the Dietary Manager for Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend for many years and later worked as a Prep Cook for the Great Bend Senior Center. Debbie preceded him in death. Russell was united in marriage to Gloria A. Fleischmann on June 10, 2015 at Great Bend, Kansas. He loved fishing and boating on lakes, but his real passion was cooking.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria A. (Fleischmann) Newcomb of Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Chelsey H. Dildine of Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Sage, Ben, and Cheyenne Dildine; one great-granddaughter, Lily; one brother, Dr. Brent Newcomb and spouse of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three sisters: Hope Walker and spouse and Kim Lynn and spouse of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Ann Chambers of Oklahoma. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his previous wife, Debbie Newcomb.

According to Russell’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Father Ted Stoecklein officiating. Memorials may be directed to the James Russell Newcomb Funeral Expense Fund in care of the funeral home. Toby Jay Leech

GREAT BEND – Toby Jay Leech, 49, passed away May 16, 2019, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on February 9, 1970 at Plainville to Morris and Reva (Sacket) Leech, Jr.

A long time Barton County resident, Toby was a driller for Pickrell Drilling in Great Bend. He liked to do mechanic work and loved 4 wheelers and off roading. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving his passing are his parents of Great Bend; one son, Andrew Taylor of Great Bend; two brothers, Todd Leech and Tyler Leech, both of Great Bend; two sisters, Connie Daniels of Fuita, CO, and Christy Leech of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by long-time companion, Dorothy Schmidt; one brother, Terry Leech; and two sisters, Cindy Leech and Carla Leech.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Toby Leech Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Morris F. Leech, Jr.

GREAT BEND – Morris F. Leech, Jr., 81, passed away May 20, 2019, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. He was born March 3, 1938, at Plainville to Morris & Naomi (Cooper) Leech, Sr.

A long time Great Bend resident, Morris was a driller in the oilfield. He like to play dominos, fish and race motorcycles. He loved having family and friend get togethers and BBQ’s.

Survivors include, his former wife, Reva Leech; two sons, Tyler Leech and Todd Leech, both of Great Bend; two daughters, Connie Daniels of Fruita, CO, and Christy Leech of Great Bend; one sister, Kay Seeman of Smith Center; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Terry Leech and Toby Leech; two daughters, Cindy Leech and Carla Leech; and one brother, Dale Leech.

Maralee Joy Hines

IRVINE, CA – Maralee Joy Hines, 88, passed away May 16, 2019, at Adagio San Juan, San Juan Capistrano, California. She was born August 22, 1930 in Ness County to Lawrence & Lois (McCurdy) Richardson. She married Bob Charles Hines April 4, 1951 at Huntington Park, California.  He died April 14, 1996.

A long-time resident of Orange County, Maralee was a homemaker, having previously worked for Bob Hines Chiropractic as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She was a member and secretary for many years of the Native American Institute, also PTA and National Audubon Society. She was an excellent bowler, avid Scrabble player, and liked bird watching and writing poetry.

Survivors include, one son, Lewis Howard Hines of San Clemente, CA; two daughters, LoRae Stolpp of San Clemente, CA, and LoRita Hines of Henderson, Nev; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Charles Hines; one daughter, LoRene Hines; and one brother, Joe Richardson.

A private family burial will be held at the Albert Cemetery, Albert, KS.

Sandra Kay Dayton

GREAT BEND – Sandra Kay Dayton, 71, of Great Bend, KS, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Hays Med Center in Hays, KS, with family and friends by her side. She was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Liberal, KS to Roy and Eunice (Hutson) Broadfoot.  She married Steve Dayton on Sept. 9, 1966 in Fargo, OK. He survives.

Coming from Alva, OK in 1969, Sandy worked for the Great Bend Public Library for 25 years as the children’s librarian.  This was a big part of her life as she loved working with children. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend. Sandra loved spending time with her family and especially spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew her. Her favorite thing to say to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was “Love you Big!” and that she truly did.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eunice Broadfoot; sisters, Margaret Ann Broadfoot and Maybelle Mitchell: brothers, Karl Broadfoot and Benny Broadfoot. She is survived by her husband, Steve Dayton of the home; sons, Matt Dayton (Lara) of Overland Park, KS and Mark Dayton (Shane) of Derby, KS; daughter, Melissa McNeill (Scott) of Overland Park, KS; brothers, Danny Broadfoot (Jacque) Beaver, OK, Ronnie Broadfoot (Kareen) of Smithton, IL, and Troy Broadfoot of Coweta, OK; and sister, Nancy Elliott of TX; plus 7 grandchildren, Grace Whitson (Scott), Emilie Dayton, Camden Dayton, Elise Dayton, Caleb Dayton, Kaylee McNeill, and Braden McNeill; and 2 great-grandchildren, Malachi Whitson and Eden Whitson. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Della Ann Ranker

Della Ann Ranker, age 86, passed away May 11, 2019, at Medical Lodges of Great Bend.  She was born Nov. 17, 1932, at Ellsworth, to Otto F. and Anna C. (Kohls) Haase.  Della married William Von Ranker Oct. 23, 1951, at Ellsworth.  He passed away Feb. 16, 2016.

A 1950 Graduate of Ellsworth High School, Della had been a resident of Great Bend since 1956, coming from McCook, Neb.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she held an active role as a Sunday School teacher, and was employed by Security State Bank for 22 years, retiring in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, David Ranker and wife Ronda of Hays, Steve Ranker of Florissant, Mo., and Philip Ranker and wife Darcee of Solana Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, Matthew Ranker and wife Becca, Amy Brooks and husband Wyatt, Hayley Ranker, and Lynsie Ranker and husband James; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Caleb, Gracie, Hope and Isaac Ranker. She was preceded in passing by her husband Bill; and by one brother Otto Haase, Jr.; and by one sister, Edith Reed.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, with the Reverand Barbara Jones. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.  Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Jo Kay Lepej

TOPEKA – Jo Kay Lepej, 72, passed away May 24, 2019, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born January 31, 1947, at Great Bend to Joe F. & Elma M. (Laughlin) Lepej. Jo Kay was a 1965 Council Grove High School graduate, then pursued her higher education from K.S.U., graduating in 1969.

A long time Topeka resident, Jo Kay was a CNA at Stormont Vail Hospital. She was a member of the First United Congregational Church and the Hot Air Balloon Club in Topeka. She enjoyed QVC, Royals baseball, Jeopardy and was a passionate Marion High School sports fan.

Survivors include, her mother, Elma M. Lepej; sister, Patti Smith and husband George of Isle, MN; two nieces and one nephew, Tyler Mermis of Marion, Taryn Baca of Goodyear, AZ, and Tierney Mermis of Great Bend; and five great nieces and nephews, Blaine, Bryce and Brynn Mermis of Marion, Haley Suchy of Great Bend, and Kamryn Baca of Goodyear, AZ. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe F. Lepej.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home.

Darren Rocha Hopkins

HUTCHINSON — Darren Lynn “Chavez” Rocha Hopkins, 49, passed away May 22, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.  He was born August 13, 1969, at Great Bend, the son of Vernon Rocha and Carol Horyna.

Darren, a Hutchinson resident since 1992 coming from Great Bend, was employed as a truck driver for Groendyke Transport, Inc.  He had a passion for classic cars, and in his free time, enjoyed camping, boating, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include mother, Carol Huffman of Great Bend; one daughter, Leah Hopkins of Hutchinson; three brothers, Leslie W. Hopkins of Great Bend, Tommy R. Hopkins of Great Bend and Greg Rocha of Dodge City; three sisters, Pamela M. Hopkins of Great Bend, Christy Huffman of Great Bend and Susan Volkland of Col.; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in passing by his father, Vernon Rocha and step father, Tommy E. Hopkins.

Funeral services have been arranged for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with The Reverend Dick Ogle presiding.  Interment will follow at the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Memorials may be given to the Midwest Transplant Network, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Hurvey D. Chism

Hurvey D. Chism (Doug), 77, walked through the gates of heaven on May 25th 2019. We will celebrate his earthly life on June 1st, 2019 at the First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend, KS at 10:30am with Rev. Dwight Dozier.

Doug began his wonderful life in Forty-Four, Arkansas on March 17th, 1942.  Married Gladys M. Chism (Brown) on April 16th 1961 and they brought into life three sons, Hurvey D. Chism Jr., William G. Chism and Paul C. Chism.

Doug worked as a welder and oilfield rig hand for much of his life. He built houses and fixed most anything.  When he retired he also tinkered with rental houses.

He was a jokester and always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, Felicity A. Chism, Zachary A. Chism and Tomie J. Chism. He always had a candy or a rock to give them! He took extreme pride in his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Gladys; two sons: William and Paul; three grandchildren: Felicity, Zachary and Tomie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Eunice (Collins) Chism; one son, Hurvey D Chism Jr.; four brothers: William, Roland, Ulman, and Howard, and one sister Versie.

Mary Ann Davidson

Dateline – Derby 

Mary Ann Davidson, 71, died May 27, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.  She was born June 12, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Lester and Viola (Krier) Kahler.

A 1965 graduate of Holyrood High School in Kansas, she later attended Fort Hays State College.

On July 30, 1967, she married Dale A. Davidson at the United Church of Christ in Holyrood, Kansas.

They journeyed together throughout his military career with the Air Force. First to Enid, Oklahoma, and then to Vacaville, California. Mary Ann returned to Claflin, Kansas, while Dale was serving in Vietnam. Upon his return they lived in O’Fallon, Illinois, back to Vacaville, California, then to Montgomery, Alabama, back again to O’Fallon, Illinois, onto Bellevue, Nebraska, and then back for one last stop in O’Fallon, Illinois, where they retired before finally moving back to her beloved state of Kansas, settling in Derby, Kansas, in 2017.

Mary Ann was a secretary for 20 years for the O’Fallon School District in Illinois, retiring in 1997.

She actively supported the USO; Victory in the Valley, and the various churches where they lived.  She was an avid KU basketball fan, she loved traveling with family and friends, their many bicycle trips, quilting, cross-stitching, puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren, and of course sunflowers. For those who knew her, every time they see a sunflower, they will think of her and the joy she brought to so many.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Dale Davidson of the home; sons, Philip Davidson and wife Trisha of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Andrew Davidson and wife Erin of Caseyville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Drew, Kyle, Chloe, and Cainan Davidson; a brother, Lester Kahler of Haysville, Kansas; numerous cousins from the Kahler and Krier families; and many friends from their journeys around the country with the Air Force and bicycling trips.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019, with family to receive friends from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, Kansas.

Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, Claflin, Kansas, with Pastor Diane Webster presiding.  Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.

Keith Otto Marcum

GREAT BEND – Keith Otto Marcum, 91, passed away May 28, 2019, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. He was born on March 21, 1928, at Turon, to Otto H. & Mildred (Riggs) Marcum. He married Marie Parks on November 4, 1961 at Overland Park. She died October 5, 2016.

Keith was an Army Veteran, having served during Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal.  Coming from Topeka in 1969, Keith was a Great Bend resident.  He was an office manager for the State of Kansas Employment Services for 32 years, retiring in 1992.  Keith was an active and prominent member of the First Church of the Nazarene, being awarded the Distinguished Service Award, along with his wife Marie.  Keith was also a member of VFW Post #3111.

Survivors include, one sister, Crystal Burrows of Adams, TN; and one brother, Frank Marcum of Plainville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie Marcum; and two sisters, Lois Walters and Martha Bennett.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, at First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, with Pastor Josh Foster presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Army.  Memorials have been suggested to First Church of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Daryl E. Klepper

GREAT BEND – Daryl E. Klepper, 65, passed away May 28, 2019, at his home in Great Bend. He was born March 6, 1954 at Ellinwood, to Clifford & Virginia (Dressler) Klepper. He married Janice Huslig on April 5, 1975, at Odin. She survives.

Coming from Ellinwood in 1980, Daryl was the plant supervisor at Doonan Trailer for 39 years. He was on the board at the Lake Barton Golf Club and Ducks Unlimited. He liked participating in pitch tournaments, golfing, hunting, fishing, woodworking and welding.

Survivors include, his wife, Janice Klepper of the home; two sons, Brett Klepper and wife Julianna of Auburn, NE, and Brad Klepper and wife Caitlin of Leavenworth; two daughters, Stacie Eckels and husband Mike of Ft. Collins, CO, and Deena Plymell and husband Matthew of Lee’s Summitt, MO; his mother, Virginia Klepper ; two brothers, Terry Klepper and wife Mary of Salina, and Brian Klepper of Overland Park; four sisters, Janice Rielly and husband Ron of St. Clairsville, OH, Cheryl Philippi and husband Mike of Manhattan, Michelle Shaheen and husband Mike of Derby, and Lynnette Bernasconi and husband Dave of Hays; and two grandchildren, Luka Klepper and Hannah Klepper. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Klepper; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otto and Mary Huslig.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin, with Father Ted Stoecklein presiding. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Odin. Memorials are suggested to the Daryl E. Klepper Scholarship, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Richard P. Krom

Richard P. Krom, age 81 years, longtime Great Bend, Kansas resident, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, May 29, 2019 at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus in Great Bend. Richard was born on November 19, 1937 at Raymond, Washington to Philip and Mamie (Jones) Krom. He was united in marriage to Velta Irene Kasselman Reed on January 9, 1970 at Great Bend, Kansas. Richard co-owned and operated B & K Body Shop for a few years, and worked for several years as a machinist for Flexweight, and also worked at Fuller Brush Company for about five years (all of Great Bend, Kansas). He loved fishing, playing guitar, and playing the Kansas Lottery, but especially loved spending time with family.

Richard is survived by one son, Bruce (and his wife, Veronica) Krom of Great Bend, Kansas; one step-daughter, Sue (and her husband, Dan) Gowdy of Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren: Lynee Alloway, Lane Meyer, Jacob Krom, Tammy Gowdy, and Craig Gowdy; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Krom of Wichita, Kansas. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Velta on June 10, 2011, two children: Philip Krom and Melinda Meyer; a stepson, Jack Kasselman; one grandson, Eric Gowdy; one brother, Robert Krom and two sisters, Nadine Liston and Clara Armour.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Great Bend Cemetery in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Jon Hembree officiating. The family requests that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend, Kansas. Patrick Thomas ‘Pat’ Goddard was born April 28, 1956 in Manhattan, KS the son of Jack Olen and Mary JoAnn (Weirauch) Goddard. He passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 along with his dog Poodles, his best friend, at his residence in Cortez, CO at the age of 63.

Pat loved his dog Poodles, loved to ride his motorcycle and his bicycle, and he loved to hike in Sand Canyon.

Surviving Pat are his wife, Sherene (Horrocks) Goddard of Cortez, CO; his sons, Jeremiah Goddard (Bryanne) of Arriola, CO, Jack Goddard (Lisa) of Arriola, CO; his step daughter, Alisha Horrocks of Grand Junction, CO; his three grandchildren, Destinee Goddard, Kyler Goddard, Ryder Goddard; five step grandchildren, Martina Horrocks Espinoz, Renaldo Gustemantez, Selena Gustemantez, Grace Burress, Haley Burress; one step granddaughter, Oliva Gustemantez; his brother, Mike Goddard; his sisters, Kay Thompson, Dee Krier, and Jay Barnes. Pat was preceded in death by his parents.

On June 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Pats cremated remains will be scattered at Goodman Point on the rim of Sand Canyon. Following, a ‘pot luck’ will be held at Sherenes house.  Memorials amy be sent to Ertel Funeral Home, 42 N. Market, Cortex CO.  81321.  Pat was loved by his family and friends and will be missed.
