He married Betty Jo Mangum September 24, 1947 at Lubbock, Texas. She died December 7, 2000.
A Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1964, coming from rural Susank, Kansas, Mr. Maier worked for Producers Gas Co, retiring in 1976. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II.
Mr. Maier was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant, dove and rabbit hunting.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, David Maier, Emil Maier, and Edward Maier, and two sisters, Hilda Jones and Alma Stewart.
